JAMMU, Aug 18: MA Stadium in Jammu will be developed to an International standard with an expenditure of Rs 75 crore in its renovation in the first phase very soon, apart from the development of playfields at various places in Jammu City and adjoining areas.
This was stated by Raman Bhalla, Minister for Housing, Horticulture, Culture and Youth Services and Sports, while inaugurating sports facility at Dogra Academy ground in Shastri Nagar, here.
He said that the Government is committed to develop sports infrastructure in every nook and corner of the State, adding that the stadia will be renovated and developed to cater to the needs of thousands of budding sportspersons and promote sports in the State.
Mr Bhalla inaugurated the sports facility, the development of which was initiated on the wishes and desire of the people of Shastri Nagar and Gandhi Nagar areas.
Apart from the three major games of handball, volleyball and judo, the ground can accommodate organization of many minor games at a time, besides serving the people to enjoy leisure and organize recreational activities.
Mr Bhalla has initiated and ensured proper fencing of the ground, apart from estabilishing high mast lights to enlighten the ground during nights.
Sportspersons were engaged in demonstrations of archery and judo events on the occasion.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Deputy Director Youth Services, Ved Prakash, Joint Secretary State Sports Council, Sidharth Sharma and Divisional Sports Officer, Rajan Sharma.
