JAMMU, Dec 6: Inter-College Yoga Championship for Men and Women, organised by Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, commenced at University’s Stadium, here today.
Dr Daud Iqbal Baba, Director Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu inaugurated the Championship in the presence of a large number of guests, Physical Directors of Colleges, students of the respective Colleges and University.
In today’s competition students from the PG Department, University of Jammu, GDC Kunjwani, GDC Rajouri, GCET Jammu, GDC Paloura (Mishriwala) participated and the finals of the different categories will be held tomorrow.
The competitions were officiated by Sanjeev Kumar, Anil Gupta, Harinder Pal Singh, Mukesh Sharma, Komal Gupta and Sandeep Sharma.
In women wrestling competitions below 50 kg, Chand Chib of GDC RS Pura and Priya Sharma of GDC Khour won gold and silver respectively, while Resha Rajput of GCW Parade and Nagma (GDC Chowdhary) shared bronze medals, whereas in below 53kg, Anju Devi of GDC Kathua and Manvi Sharma of GDC Khour secured gold and silver, while Nitika of GCW Parade and Lepakshi Bagal of GDC Samba shared bronze medal and in below 55 kg, the top two medals were secured by Samriti (GCW Parade) and Manisha (GDC Samba) respectively, while bronze medal was jointly secured by Reeta of GDC Kathua and Sinia Chib of GDC RS Pura.
In below 57 kg, Muskan of PG Department and Kusam of GCW Parade won gold and silver, while bronze medal was jointly won by Deepshika of RS Pura and Tripta Devi of GDC Kathua, whereas in below 59 kg, top two positions were clinched by Manju of GDC Rajouri and Riya Devi of GDC Paloura, whereas Shriya Gupta of GCW Parade and Arti Thakur of GDC Ramnagar shared bronze medal, besides in below 62 kg, Poonam Devi of GDC Khour won gold, whereas Riya Sharma of GDC RS Pura secured silver and Monika Devi of GDC Kathua and Kajal Chib of GDC RS Pura shared bronze medal.
In below 65kg, the top three medals were won by Jyoti Devi (GDC Rajouri), Manvi (GDC Samba) and Riya (GDC Parade) respectively, while in below 72 kg, gold and silver were secured by Rosy Chib of GDC RS Pura and Mansi Dogra of GDC Parade respectively and in below 76 kg, top two medals were clinched by Meenaskhi of GDC Ramnagar and Ambika of GDC Parade respectively.
About 50 female wrestlers from 10 different Colleges of University of Jammu participated wherein overall championship was won by GCW Parade by securing 17 points, followed by GDC Khour with 14 points.
The prizes were distributed by Dr Daud Iqbal Baba, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education to the medallists.
The bouts were officiated by panels of referees including Jai Bharat, Bansi Lal Tidyal, Sahil Sharma, Dr Kamal Sharma and others.
