JAMMU, Dec 1: Inter-College Sports Tournament of Cluster University of Jammu was inaugurated at GGM Science College Ground by the Vice-Chancellor of Cluster University- Prof Bachan Lal, here today.
The Vice Chancellor of Cluster University of Jammu was the chief guest of the event.
The welcome address was presented by Dr Ravender Tickoo, Nodal Principal, GGM Science College who formally welcomed the chief guest and other dignitaries from the University including Prof Jatinder Khajuria (Registrar), Prof. Bhupinder Singh (DAA), Principles of various constituent Colleges of Cluster University of Jammu, Dr Vinod Bakshi, Sports Coordinator CLUJ and Physical Director GGM Science College Jammu and faculty members of sports committee from various Colleges of Jammu.
Prof. Tickoo, in his welcome address emphasised on the role and importance of sports in shaping up the overall personality of an individual. He further reiterated that sports help the students to maintain good health, develop leadership skills to overcome failure to handle success and to become better individuals. He wished good luck to all the participants.
The opening Football match of the tournament was played between GGM Science College and MAM College in which MAM College emerged winners and defeated the opponents by 3 goals to1.
Earlier, an exhibition match of Tug of War was also played between GGM Science College and SPMR College of Commerce in which GGM Science College won the match.
Prof Bachan Lal, in his inaugural address expressed his concern over the present situations due to COVID -19 pandemic and asked the students to follow COVID -19 protocol by taking all the preventive measures during the tournament. He apprised the audience that this tournament is being organised after a gap of two years due to the prevailing pandemic.
He lauded Dr Vinod Bakshi, Physical Director GGM Science College and the organiser of this sports event for organising the event in a disciplined manner. Prof Bachan Lal also emphasized that sports is an integral part of curriculum and helps in inculcating various skills in the students.
The inaugural function was anchored by Prof Preeti Dogra, while the matches were officiated by Aman Banathia, Aman Sudan, Dil Bahadur and Dheeraj.
