India win 5 medals on day 1 of Asian Cadet Wrestling Ch’ship

NEW DELHI, June 11: Arun Kumar and Pradeep won gold medals as India put up an impressive show on the opening day of the Asian Cadet Wrestling Championship by grabbing five medals, here today.

Competing in the 85kg category of the Free Style event, Arun edged past Iran’s Seyedabolfazl Hashemijouybar with a very close 7-6 scoreline to emerge champion.

Pradeep claimed the yellow metal in a dominating fashion as he overpowered Japan’s Takhashi Sanshiro 6-0 in the final of the 50kg category of the Greco Roman Style.

Annu Devi settled for a silver medal after losing the 40kg female Free Style final to Korea’s Mun Su Jong.

Nasir Hussain win silver in 100kg Free Style after losing the final bout to Iran’s Naeiim Hassanzadeh.

Ankush claimed a bronze in the 38kg female free style event after finishing third beind Shimizu Miu (gold) and Almaganbetova Laura (silver). (PTI)
