KARGIL, Jan 24: Union Tourism Minister, Prahlad Singh Patel inaugurated a branch of Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering (IISM), here today.
The Union Minister came here to participate in various events regarding celebration of the National Tourism Day with National Events of Adventure Tourism (NEAT), which is scheduled to be organised tomorrow in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
Inaugurating IISM branch at Linkipal Ski Slopes of Pashkum in Kargil district, Prahlad Singh said that the Central Government was taking all measures to encourage adventure sports and snow based winter games in the region. “Till date sportspersons who are using the natural advantages are supporting local talents but now the efforts are on for sports development at various levels and the Government’s efforts have become instrumental in supporting the local talent by all means of infrastructure and training in the sporting field,” Union Minister said.
He hoped that with the help of Government, the Ice Hockey could be possible at many places of the region and soon Ladakh region will produce international level players.
CEC LAHDC Kargil Feroz Ahmed Khan, DC Baseer Ul Haq Choudhary and other dignitaries were also present during the event.
Later, the Minister also visited Maitriya Budha Statue at Mulbkeh and historical Shargole Monastery Cave.
