*Stadium XI wins U-14 Col Chopra Challenge Cup

JAMMU, Oct 31: Powered by splendid performances by Vivrant Sharma, Abdul Samad, Kanhaya Wadhawan and smart skippering skills by Sanchit Dass, Stadium XI drubbed Academy XI by 81 runs to lift the title trophy of the Under-14 Boys Col RN Chopra Challenge Cup, the IIIM-CSIR cricketing extravaganza, which concluded with an extraordinary Prize Distribution Function at Academy Grounds, here today.
DIG Jhonny Williams was the chief guest on the valedictory function, while Director IIIM, Ram A Vishwakarma presided over the function and Rakesh Gandral, Joint Commissioner Income Tax was the guest of honour.
The first of its kind tournament held in the State, involving budding cricketers of Under-12, 14 and 16 age groups, was organized under the supervision of Rakesh Basin, organizing secretary and coaches Sukomal Ganguly and Deepak Dogra.
Speaking on the occasion, the dignitaries lavished praise for the organizers in holding this mega event which was simply a perfect platform for young cricketers to hone their skill and get ready for the bigger circuit of the game.
The organizers said that the objective of the Academy is to produce quality stuff and keep State’s flag high at the International scene.
Earlier, batting first, Stadium XI scored a fighting total of 162 runs in 30 overs. Anmol was the top scorer with 24 runs, while Arush and Abdul Samad contributed 22 runs each and Kanhaya Wadhawan chipped in with 19 runs. For Academy XI, Abhishek and Maruthwan bagged 3 wickets each, while Sourav and Gourav claimed 2 wickets each.
In reply, Academy XI bundled out for 81 runs in 19 overs, thus lost the match by 81 runs. Gourav, Sarthak Behl and Paras contributed 18, 17 and 16 runs to the total respectively. For Stadium XI, Abdul Samad was the pick of the bowlers, scalping 3 important wickets, Anmol and Harshpreet bagged 2 wickets, while Sanchit Dass and Vivrant claimed one wicket each. Abdul Samad was adjudged man of the match.
The man of the match awards were presented by the dignitaries to the players of All age groups. Those who claimed man of the match awards in Under-12 group included Arya Sachivansh Thakur, Praful Dhar, Danish Sharma, Karmanya and Aman Mahajan, while man of the tournament/best batsman, best bowler and best fielder awards went to Arya Sachivansh, Praful Dhar and Mavneek Singh respectively.
In Under-14 group, the man of the match awards went to Aryan Gandral, Sarthak Peshin, Vivrant Sharma, Thythm and Abdul Samad, while the best batsman, best bowler, best fielder and man of the tournament awards were bagged by Aryan Gandral, Maruthwan, Sanchit Dass and Vivrant Sharma respectively.
Meanwhile, in Under-16 boys, Yogesh Sikka, Jagandeep Singh, Akshay and Avneet bagged man of the match awards, while the man of the tournament/best batsman, best bowler, best fielder and best all-rounder awards went to Jagandeep Singh, Avneet, Ramandeep and Pavit Singh Ishar respectively.
Meanwhile, in this 10-days long tournament, 5 teams participated in Under-12 age group, 4 in Under-14 and 4 in Under-16 tournament.
