Ice Hockey Tournament gets underway at Kargil

JAMMU, Feb 19: Ice Hockey Tournamentm being organised by District Police Kargil got underway at Ice Hockey Rink, Goshan Drass, here.
The 5-day Tournament is being organized by the District Police Kargil under Civic Action Programme 2018-19.
Ten teams drawn from different areas of District Kargil are taking part in the Tournament.
The event was declared open by Dr Vinod Kumar, SP Kargil who was the chief guest on the occasion.
The event added colour to winter as people in all age groups turned up in large numbers braving chill to witness the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Vinod said that aim of holding the Tournament is to usher in healthy life style in people and promote Winter Sports in Kargil.
He said that although Ice Hockey is lesser known in other parts of the country but it is most sought after sport in Ladakh region considering the high potential due to natural weather.
He added that by utilizing this platform to showcase their talent and skills can prove crucial for these players in reaching professional success.
District Police Kargil is organising this Ice Hockey Tournament in Sub-Division Drass which is second coldest inhabitant place in the world naturally suitable for this game.
The inaugural match was played between Adventure Club Drass and Samarah Club Chiktan in which former emerged winner by four goals to three (4-3).
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Gh Rasool, I/c SDM Drass;
Rigzin Sandup, DySP DAR Kargil; Inspector Tsewang Norbu, SHO P/S Drass and Mohd Amin Polo, President Himalayan Sports Club, besides other officers/officials.
