UDHAMPUR, July 6: Hundreds of youths participated in 7th marathon run against drug abuse which commenced today from Ritti Panchayat at around 6:30 AM and concluded at Barta.
Organized by Dogra Kranti Dal (DKD), the marathon was flagged off by chief patron of Dogra Kranti Dal, former MLA and NPP president Balwant Singh Mankotia. DKD president, Surjeet Singh was also present. About 300 youth participated in the marathon run.
Speaking on the occasion, Mankotia said that to make Udhampur drug free is our prime goal and we are working at ground level by organising such marathons and sports activities. He expressed anxiety over the spread of “Chitta” named drug at such a fast rate due to which many of the youngsters have lost their lives during past three years in Udhampur.
Mankotia said that it is the conspiracy of our neighbourhood country to make our youth concave by making them drug addict. He appealed all the political and non political parties to come together to make our city drug free. He demanded strict action against drug peddlers. He said that such type of activities should be done periodically which is the only route for drawing youth away from drugs.
The NPP president informed that during the previous days he has made door to door awareness campaign against drugs and also made huge rallies to eradicate such a menace and to take stern action against drug peddlers.
Later, Mankotia also awarded first three winners with cash prizes. Rajesh Singh who won 1st rank was given Rs 5100, Sunil Sharma (2nd rank) was given Rs 3100 and 3rd winner, Mohinder Kumar was awarded a cash amount of Rs 2100.
