LEH, Feb 28: Heroic welcome was accorded to the Marathon Runners on their arrival at Kushok Bakula Airport, here today. Athletes Jigmet Dolma, Tsetan Dolkar, Tashi Ladol, Stanzin Chondol, Stanzin Dolkar, Deskit Dolma, Nawang Tsering, Manzoor Hussian and Sonam Targyais were received by their family members, well wishers and Ladakh Marathon founder Padma Shri Chewang Motup Goba.
Expressing their highest gratitude to Chewang Motup Goba for providing them platform to take part in various Marathons held across the Nation, Jigmet Dolma said that for the first time she got chance to represent India during South Asian Games, adding that her timing is improving but stressed for having proper running tract in Leh to compete with other runners at various levels.
Similarly Manzoor Hussain also said that Motup Goba had all the arrangements for the runners and they are grateful to him.
“When Ladakh Marathon started in 2012, I had never imagined for a quick result but every year the runners are getting better and better which made every Ladakhi proud and days are not far when not only Ladakh but entire country will be proud of these girls” said Jubilant Chewang Motup while expressing his gratitude to their coach Savior D’souza and runners for their hard work.
He added that very soon these runners will make their names in International sports arena and put Ladakh on much higher position in long distance running. He urged the UT Ladakh Administration to create facilities such as Athletic Tract, Gym and coaches to motivate the sportspersons in Ladakh.
The runners had participated in various Marathons held across the Nation this winter.
IDBI Marathon held in Delhi recently where all the top three positions in the 21.1k Half Marathon in the women’s category were won by girls from UT Ladakh. Tashi Lodol won the gold with timing 1:28:28 hours, followed by Stanzin Chondol (01:31:13 hours) and Stanzin Dolkar (01:31:43 hours).
Similarly Jigmet Dolma from UT Ladakh also won the bronze in the full marathon with her timing 3:03:10 hours and Tsetan Dolker stood on 4th position.
In Maharashtra Police International Marathon held on February 9, 2020, Tashi Ladol stood 2nd in female 21 km while Diskit Dolma claimed third position.
Bordo Chikoo festival run was held on February 2, 2020 where Tashi Ladol stood 1st in women 21 Km and Stanzin Chondol 2nd. Similarly Stanzin Dolker stood 2nd in 10 Km in female and Sonam Targais stood 3rd in male category.
Tata Mumbai Marathon was held in January, where Jigmet Dolma stood 4th and Tsetan Dolkar 5th in elite 42 k.
In Apollo Millennium City Marathon held in December 2019 Manzoor Hussain stood 2nd in male 21 km and Tsetan Dolker 3rd in Women 21 km.
Vasai Virar Mayor’s Marathon held in December 2019 Manzoor Hussain stood 3rd in his age category of 42 km and Tsetan Dolkar 1st in overall 42 Km.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor UT Ladakh RK Mathur in his tweet message lauded the spectacular display of the sportsman acumen by the young boys and girls in athletics and said that they have earned pride for the entire region.
