*Manipur emerges Champion in Taolu Sub Jr, TN in Jr

JAMMU, Mar 31: Displaying extraordinary Wushu skills, Haryana eves lifted the title trophies and became champions in Khelo India Women’s Sub Junior & Junior Wushu League, while Manipur emerged champion in Sub Junior Girls Taolu and Tamil Nadu won the title in Junior Girls Taolu event.
Rajesh Sharma, Chairman Service Selection Board J&K was the chief guest on the occasion, while Bhanu Pratap Singh, Assistant Director SAI Incharge J&K was the guest of honour.
Vijay Saraf, General Secretary Wushu Association of India; Kuldeep Handoo, Dhronacharya Awardee and Chief Coach of India; Suhail Ahmed, Observer from Wushu Association of India; Bavneet, General Secretary Wushu Association of J&K and Kirti Dhar, Media Head of Wushu Association of J&K were present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, in Sub Junior Girls Sanda, the first and second runners-up trophy went to Chandigarh and Rajasthan respectively, while in Junior Girls Sanda, the 1st and 2nd runners-up trophy respectively.
Assam and Haryana emerged 1st and 2nd runners-up in the Sub Junior Girls Taolu event, while Assam and Madhya Pradesh claimed 1st and 2nd runners-up trophies in the Junior Girls Taolu event.
In Sub Junior Girls U-14 years, Khushi of Haryana emerged champion, while Hurrain Iqbal of J&K won second place, while Vrutika of Maharashtra and Dilpreet Kour of Chandigarh claimed third and fourth place respectively. On the occasion, the chief guest and the other dignitaries felicitated the winners with trophies and the cheques on the occasion.
Chief guest, Rajesh Sharma said that Khelo India Sub-Junior and Junior National League Wushu Championship at Jammu from March 26 to 31, 2024, organised by Wushu Association of Jammu and Kashmir, is a great initiative by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt of India and the Sports Authority of India to promote women sports in every nook and corner of the country.
He said around 700 women athletes (Wushu players) drawn from various States/Union Territories of the Country took part in this mega event. “Such events apart from promoting women empowerment and gender equality, also serve as a launching pad to lure more and more women athletes towards games and sports. Such events also help the sportspersons who are the messengers of peace and harmony, to serve as the ambassadors, besides helping budding youth not to derail from the mainstream,” Sharma said.
The chief guest also praised J&K Sports Council for raising sports infrastructure in every nook and corners of the UT and promoting sports at the grass-root level. Assistant Director SAI, Bhanu Pratap Singh also spoke on occasion and lavished praise on the organisers for holding the event in a most beautiful manner.
Earlier, in his welcome address Vijay Saraf highlighted the achievements of the Association and said a cash prize of Rs 22 lakh was distributed among the winners of this sporting extravaganza. Kuldeep Handoo said this initiative of the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and SAI will boost the morale of the women sportspersons and will help India to emerge as a sporting hub. The proceedings of the closing ceremony were conducted by anchor Rajesh Dhar.
