Haryana lifts Ist Junior North Zone Sport Climbing C’ship title

JAMMU, Sept 8: Haryana lifted Ist Junior North Zone Sport Climbing Championship title trophy, which concluded at MNDP School, RS Pura, today.
The powerful Haryana climbers collected 16 points by winning 1 Gold medal, 4 Silver medals and 3 Bronze medals, while Punjab won 1 Gold and a Bronze to clinch the second spot. The host J&K and Delhi had to be content with 1Gold medal each to occupy the third place.
In the final round of the Boys Lead climbing, Adarsh Singh of Delhi won the Gold while the Silver and Bronze medals were bagged by Ghaurav Chhikara and Ritesh Bhati, both of Haryana. In the Girls Lead climbing, Shivpreet of Punjab clinched the Gold medal, while, silver and bronze medals were won by Haryana girls Alankrita and Kirti Sajwan.
In Boys Speed Climbing, Lovish Kumar of J&K emerged victorious, whereas, the second and third places were secured by Ritesh Bhati and Gaurav, both of Haryana respectively. However, Haryana bagged its only Gold medal when Alankrita outshone her teammate Kirti Sajwan and Shivpreet of Punjab who secured second and third place respectively.
At concluding ceremony, S Bhattacharjee, Chairman, IMF North Zone Committee was the chief guest who distributed medals to the winners and presented mementos to the participating States and technical officials from other States.
During the championship, Mitra Ghosh, a national Judge in sport climbing was the president of jury, while, Manjeet Singh from Delhi was the Chief Route Setter. Both were supported by technical officials from IMF North Zone Committee. The local climbers led by Shawetica Khajuria, a qualified national Sport Climbing Judge also contributed substantially towards the success of the competition.
It is to mention that, a total of 193 climbers including 84 girls from J&K and other North Zone states participated in the 2-day Championship organized by Mountaineering Association of J&K under the aegis of IMF North Zone Committee and sponsored by J&K State Sports Council.
