Harinder’s heroics help Khalsa Club to win 3rd Christmas T20 title

JAMMU, Jan 19: Harinder Singh hit a towering six when it mattered the most on the last ball of the match when Khalsa Cricket Club needed 3 runs for victory in the summit clash of the ongoing 3rd Christmas Cup T20 Cricket Tournament, organized by Range Police Headquarters Jammu in collaboration with Christian Sports for College students and J&K cricketers at Parade ground, here today.
Needing 12 runs in the last over against formidable JKP XI, with best bowler of the tournament, Vishal Singh Bhau in operation, Khalsa Club batsmen especially Harinder held their nerves and smashed 2 fours and a six to script a thrilling win, making their side to enjoy ‘bangra’ on a cricket field.
Earlier, JKP XI winning the toss and electing to bat first scored a modest total of 132 runs in stipulated 20 overs, losing 9 wickets in the process. Nitin from Khalsa-XI took 3 wickets, while Mannu and Kelin bagged 2 wickets each and Rakshit and Prithi claimed one wicket each.
In reply, Khalsa team won the match on the last ball by losing 9 wickets. Rajesh Gill, Vishal Singh Bhau and Ankush of JKP XI took 2 wickets each, while Shamsher Singh Manhas and Shashi claimed one wicket each. Harinder of Khalsa XI was adjudged as  man of the match for his brief but heroic knock of 31 runs. Best batsman award was bagged by Soumay Jain, while Vishal Singh Bhau was adjudged best bowler and the man of the series award went to Gorav Khajuria of PG Law College.
The match was officiated by Saleem-ur-Rehman, Sandeep Manchanda, Sohail Yousuf and Vinod, while R P Singh conducted the proceedings of the programme.
Rajesh Kumar, IGP Jammu was the chief guest on the occasion, while Shakeel Ahmed Beig, DIG Jammu and Fr Kuriakose chairman, Christian Sports Organization were the guests of honour.
IGP Jammu complemented the players as well as organizing members of the tournament, while speaking on the occasion DIG Jammu said that the cricket tournament was held under Civic Action Programme of J&K Police in which 24 teams participated including College teams with the slogans “Be Healthy and Don’t Do Drugs”.
He further said that participation in the sports activities keeps the young generation away from drug addiction and other social evils and cautioned the players and spectators about the traffic violations which results in fatal accidents.
Fr Kuriakose of Christian Sports Organization also spoke on the occasion.
Chief guest Rajesh Kumar and other dignitaries distributed prizes among the winners and runner-up teams on the occasion
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Rajiv Pandey and Randhir Singh.
