JAMMU, Dec 11: Defeating RCF Kapurthala in a close contest by two goals to nil (2-1) in the summit clash, Guru Football Club Jallandhar lifted the title trophy of the 1st Pandit Prem Nath Dogra Memorial Football Gold Cup Tournament at Parade ground, here today.
Both the teams displayed extraordinary football skills and finally the team from Jallandhar proved its superiority and clinched the prestigious title by (2-1).
Winner of the tournament Guru Football Club Jalandhar was awarded a prize money of Rs 1,000,00 and the runners-up team RCF Kapurthala was given a cash prize of Rs 50,000 by the chief guest Sat Sharma MLA and State BJP President and the guest of honour Member Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma.
Earlier, MLA Jammu East, Rajesh Gupta who was the Chairman of the Tournament Organizing Committee along with Rakesh Khanna, President/ Organiser and Naresh Dogra welcomed the chief guest and other guests on the occasion and presented them bouquets.
The dignitaries were also introduced with the teams before the start of the final match.
The chief guest while lauding the initiative of holding this mega soccer event, said that organizing an event in the memory of Sher-i-Duggar, Pt. Prem Nath Dogra, who himself was a sportsman and an avid football player caries weight and volume.
Mr Sharma stressed on the need to have more such tournaments at District levels also so as to involve the youth of the entire region in the sports activities.
Jugal Kishore while speaking on the occasion expressed his great satisfaction regarding the good organization of the tournament and congratulated the tournament organizing Committee under the leadership of MLA Rajesh Gupta for organizing football extravaganza.
He stressed on the need to provide better coaching facilities to the players for better results.
The members of the organizing Committee who were present on the occasion included Naresh Dogra General Secretary State, Rakesh Khanna President, Mohan Lal, Fietous Sohtra,Gagan Kumar, Arun Jasrotia, SMGill, Bharat Bushan and Vikram Singh.
