SAMBA, July 4: A wrestling competition was held at village Katera here.
On the occasion, Former Minister Yashpal Kundal was the chief guest and Chairman, Team Jammu Zorawar Singh Jamwal was the guest of honour.
In the competition, renowned wrestlers from J&K, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan took part. About 45 bouts were held and the main bout was won by Wrestler Gotu of Jammu.
However, centre of attraction was the handicap wrestler Rakesh Kumar of Hiranagar who fought three bouts and won all amidst thundering applause by the large number of gathering.
In his address, Yashpal Kundal said that promotion of such activities keep youth miles away from drug abuse. He said healthy body and healthy mind helps in nation building. He urged the gathering to encourage every youth in sports related activities so that they can have a healthy society.
Zorawar Singh Jamwal in his address said that these types of wrestling competitions change the mind of young generation and keep them away from drugs.
“We must take an example from a handicap youth Rakesh from Hiranagar who not only won three consecutives bouts but also showed a biggest example of courage to challenge renowned wrestlers of state. Despite having one of his legs weak, he did not hesitate to accept the challenge. If he can do wonders, let we all especially the youth learn a lesson and get united against Drug Menace and Drug mafia, which is trapping our youth”, Jamwal said.
He added that these types of events encourage the morale of the youth and refrain them from taking drugs which is now a bigger social menace.
Among others present were Sarpanch Pritam Chand, Rakesh Verma, Ravi Chand Verma, Baldev Singh, Ashok Kumar, Thoru Ram, Panch Baldev Singh Charak, Satpal, Rahul Sambyal, Satish Dutta Anupam Singh and Chandan Dutta.
