POONCH, Aug 16: First Goldy Memorial Cricket tournament, being organised by Mendhar Gunners under White Nights Corps, commenced at Mendhar, here today.
About 22 teams of border villages of Mendhar are participating in this tournament which is being played on a knockout basis.
The inaugural match of tournament was played between BEDI Club and MCC Junior wherein Mendhar Gunners Commanding Officer was the chief guest of the inaugural match.
Speaking on the occasion, the Commanding Officer encouraged the youth to actively participate in various sports competitions, organized by the Army in collaboration with Civil Administration and local societies to create a conducive atmosphere.
“The tournament is testimony of Army’s commitment to provide platform to the youth of Jammu and Kashmir, so that they can showcase their hidden talent and channelize their energy in a positive manners,” said Commanding Officer.
