JAMMU, Jan 27: Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu defeated Government Degree College (GDC) Kathua by 27 runs in the ongoing Inter-College Cricket Tournament, being organized by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu at Varsity ground, here.
Earlier, batting first after winning the toss, GMC scored a modest total of 114 runs in the stipulated 16 overs. Navjeet top scored with 25 runs, while Sawan and Nasir contributed 18 and 17 runs to the total respectively. Ghulam also chipped in with 9 runs. For GDC Kathua, Akashdeep bagged 2 wickets, while Karan and Satnam claimed one wicket each.
In reply, GDC was bundled out for a paltry total of 87 runs, thus lost the match by a margin of 27 runs. Rahul, Satnam and Akashdeep contributed 15, 14 and 8 runs to the total respectively. For GMC, Sawan was the pick of the bowlers, who bagged 3 important wickets, while Mukhtiyar and Mutahir took 2 wickets each.
Meanwhile, in the 2nd match of the tournament played between GDC Mendhar and MAM College, the latter defeated the former by 6 runs.
Batting first, GDC Mendhar scored a total of 97 runs in stipulated 20 overs by losing all wickets. Imran scored 27 runs with the help of three boundaries in 43 balls. Umar and Wazir also contributed 22 and 11 runs to the total, respectively. For MAM College, Sidhant and Shubhum bagged two wickets each while Ashutosh and Rohit also claimed one wicket each.
In reply, MAM College easily chased the target in 18.3 overs by losing just four wickets. Tushar, Nilesh, Tejaswani and Muzzamil scored 23, 22, 22 and 17 runs, respectively for their team. For GDC Mendhar, Atif claimed 2 wickets while Afaq scalped one wicket.
The matches are being officiated by Saleem-ur-Rehman, Vijay Dogra and Vivek Khajuria.
The tournament is being organised under the supervision of Director, Sports and Physical Education Jammu University, Prof Dhain Singh Bhau.
