GDC Udhampur organizes symposium on ‘Truth & Non Violence’

UDHAMPUR, Mar 8: An inter-collegiate symposium on the topic “Truth & Non-Violence” was organized at Govt Degree College (GDC) Udhampur in its Conference Hall, here. The symposium was organized by the Gandhi Global Family in collaboration with the NSS Units of the College.
The students from the Colleges of Ramnagar, Reasi and Udhampur participated in the event.
Padamshree, S P Verma from Gandhi Global Family was the chief guest on the occasion, while Principal of the College Prof S S Bhalwal presided over the function.
The chief guest spoke in detail about Gandhiji’s gospels of truth and non-violence and urged the students to follow these ideals in life. He also elaborated upon the contribution of the Gandhi Global Family towards promotion of world peace.
Prof Bhalwal urged upon the students to read more from the life of Gandhi Ji to create such a society which honours everyone irrespective of one’s caste , color , culture or creed.
“Today’s society needs Gandhi Ji’s teachings for a better tomorrow,” he added.
Four teams one each from Govt. Degree College Udhampur, Govt. General Zorawar Singh Memorial Degree College Reasi, Govt. Degree College Ramanagar & Women College Udhampur participated in the symposium and each team comprised of two students.
The 1st and the 2nd positions were clinched by Oshin Bakshi of B Sc-II and Shabina Akhter of BSc-I of the host College, while the third position was bagged by Kaima Shah of B.A II of GCW Udhampur. They were given cash prizes of Rs 5000, Rs 3000 and Rs 2000 respectively.
The Jury members included Dr Vikram Gulati, Principal Shivalik College of Education, Prof Rakesh Gupta, HoD Zoology of GDC Udhampur and Prof Swarna Bhogal, HoD Political Science, GCW Udhampur.
Prof Suresh Kumar Dogra conducted the proceedings of the programme, while Prof Udhey Bhanu NSS Programme Officer presented vote of thanks.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Prof Kamal Kishore, Prof Sanjay Kumar and Prof Ajay Sharma.
