JAMMU, Oct 23: Game Changer lifted the maiden Diwali Cup T20 Cricket Tournament title by defeating Sterling Reserves by 5 wickets in the first ever day and night match, played at MA Stadium, here today.
Gaurav Gupta, general secretary Chamber of Commerce and Industries Jammu was chief guest and Amit Gupta Corporator was guest of honour. The tournament was organised by Media Cricket Club Jammu in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council under ‘My Youth My Pride’ campaign.
Gaurav Gupta appreciated the efforts of Media Cricket Club Jammu in organizing this tournament and creating history with the first ever ‘Day & Night’ match at MA Stadium Jammu.
In the final, Dr Satyankar of Sterling Reserves CC won the toss and elected to bat first.
Batting first, Dr Satyankar and Dr Rajpal played sensibly and took the score to 49 runs before Dr Rajpal was out on 17 runs. Zubair played a cameo of 31 runs in 23 balls and Dr Satyankar contributed 42 runs but wickets kept on tumbling and Sterling Reserves scored 134 for the loss of 6 wickets in stipulated 20 overs. From Game Changer, Captain Avinash Uttam took 2 wickets, while Naveen Koul, Anchal, Udeep and Ravi shared 1 wicket apiece.
Chasing 135 runs to win, the opening pair of Game Changer, Chamkor and Lakhbinder set the tone with a fifty runs opening stand before Chamkor was out on 25 runs. Bowlers of Sterling Reserves made some inroads and took some wickets but Lakhbinder took the lead with his brilliant half century and was ably supported by Sachin reached the target by losing 5 wickets in 18.4 overs.
Lakhbinder was declared as man of the match and Dr Rajpal Singh was declared man of the series for their outstanding performances. Ashok Singh and Amit were umpires, while Sachin was the scorer in the final match.
