JAMMU, Aug 1: Anil Goswami, former Union Home Secretary and Ashwani Sharma, former legislature flagged off a team of Mountaineering Association of J&K for the expedition to Kang Yatse-II peak (20500-feet) in Ladakh from Press Club of Jammu here today.
The five member team comprising four men and a woman climber were Manik Slathia, Shilpa Charak, Sonam Sidharth and Shashi Kant Sharma led by Sumit Khajuria.
The statement said that Kang Yatse- II is an elegant peak which dominates the Markha valley of Ladakh. The summit offers a glimpse of K2, the second highest peak in the world besides Nun, Kun, Nanga Parvat, Saser and Mamostang Kangri. The team is hopeful to place all the members on the peak within a span of about 12 days. Earlier, in 2022 a four member team of Mountaineering Association of J&K had attempted Kang Yatse peak.
Chief Guest, Anil Goswami appreciated the efforts of the association for undertaking a challenging expedition to Kang Yatse. He wished the mountaineers all success in the venture. Ashwani Sharma, former MLA, and patron of Tawi Trekkers J&K advised the mountaineers to prepare themselves fully, physically as well as mentally for Tawi Trekkers J&K’s ambitious expedition to Mount Everest, planned for the year 2025.
