DYSS conducts District-Level Inter-School Sports competitions across Jammu region

JAMMU, May 29: The Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) organized Inter-Zonal and Inter-School District Level competitions across Jammu, Reasi, Udhampur and Poonch, drawing enthusiastic participation from students of Government and private schools.
At MA Stadium Jammu, Zone Gandhi Nagar claimed victory in Yoga U-19 girls and Badminton U-17 girls categories, defeating Zone Jammu by 2-0 points and 2-0 sets respectively. In Yoga U-17 girls, Devangi Sharma stood first, Kritika Sharma second and Parul Rana third.
In Reasi, competitions and selection trials in weightlifting, gymnastics, fencing, football and tennis ball cricket were held at General Zorawar Singh Stadium and Indoor Stadium. Top gymnastics performers included Bharat Singh (Heritage Public Reasi) and Shivanshi Sharma (Gurukul Public Reasi) in U-14, with Rahul Kumar, Sameethi Devi and Priyanka Devi winning in U-17. Weightlifting winners for boys were Mohd. Irfan, Shivam Kumar Singh, Anirudh Sharma, Rajik Mohd, Rahul Kumar and Bharat Bhushan; girls’ winners included Manavi Devi, Priya Kumari, Akshra Kumari, Bhushan Bharti and Anu Radha. The U-17 girls’ football team was selected for the Inter-District Division Level competition. DYSSO Reasi Tarsem Singh commended the athletes and coaches for their dedication.
At Udhampur’s Subash Stadium, the Inter-Zone Inter-School Sports Meet integrated the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ campaign, encouraging youth to stay drug-free. DIG Sarah Rizvi praised the event and participants. Karate U-14 Boys winners were Amit Sharma (H.S. Laddan) and Samaz Patkasi (Modern Academy); U-17 Boys winners were Yuvansh Bhardwaj and Ramvijay (AOC). Cricket trials for Boys U-14 and Girls U-17 were also held.
In Poonch, Zone Mandi hosted an Inter-School Girls Competition at BSF Ground Rajpura, with 487 participants in volleyball, kabaddi, kho-kho, badminton, chess, and athletics. Chief Commandant G.S. Rawat and Zonal Education Officer Harpal Singh praised the initiative and distributed prizes during the closing ceremony.
