JAMMU, Apr 16: A four day-long 5th T20 Deaf Indian Premier League commenced at Maulana Azad Cricket Stadium, here today.
Ramesh Kumar, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu was the Chief Guest while Ranjeet Kalra, Member of J&K Sports Council presided over the inaugural ceremony. Deep Karan Singh Anand and Deepjot Singh Anand Directors of Asia One Earth Hotels were the guests of honour.
Ramesh Kumar expressed happiness over the conduct of the cricket league and appreciated the special gifted players for their grit and determination. He wished the tournament all success.
Ranjeet Kalra in his address underlined the various progressive provisions for the specially abled players in the J&K Sports Policy brought out by Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha’s administration. The trophy was also unveiled by the guests on this occasion.
On the opening day, four matches were played. The first match was played between Deaf Delhi Bulls and Deaf Chennai Blasters in which Deaf Chennai Blasters won the toss and elected to field. The Deaf Delhi Bulls managed to score 79/10 runs in 14.4 Overs. Amit Gaur scored 16 runs and Vivek Kumar took two wickets.
While chasing the easy target, Deaf Chennai Blasters managed to chase down the target in just five Overs. Sai Akash scored 52 runs (18) and Manish Jain scored 16* (13). Sai Akash was declared as man of the match.
In the second match of the day played between Deaf Hyderabad Eagles and Deaf Kolkata Warriors. Deaf Kolkata Warriors won the toss and decided to field. Deaf Hyderabad Eagles set the target of 126/6 in 15 Overs. Shakir scored 28 runs while Varad Gore took 3 wickets. While chasing the target Deaf Kolkata Warriors scored only 89/9 in stipulated 15 Overs. Player of the Match was declared as Subrahmanyam for scoring 28 runs & wicket.
In the match of Deaf Punjab Lions and Deaf Rajasthan Royals, Deaf Rajasthan Royals won the toss and decided to field. Deaf Punjab Lions scored 155/4 in 15 Overs. Abhishek Thakur scored 58 and Jangir Ankit took 3 wickets. In reply, Deaf Rajasthan Royals lost all wickets in 56 runs. Deepak Kumar was declared as man of the match for taking five wickets. The match between the Deaf Kochi Tuskers and Deaf Bangalore Badshahs was underway till the last report came.
Eight hearing impaired men’s cricket teams were part of the tournament in which 14 matches will be played in Jammu University Ground and MA Stadium Jammu before the final.
