BANDIPORA/GUREZ, June 8: District Pencak Silat Championship and District Rugby Championship of Bandipora were organised by their respective Associations under the aegis of Pencak Silat Association J&K, here today.
Both the championships were inaugurated by Colonel Abinav (9 Rajput) and Sub District Magistrate Gurez, Bandipora at Dawar Gurez Bandipora wherein around 18 teams both boys and girls of different categories participated in the Rugby championship, while nearly 260 students/athletes from different age groups including pre-teen boys and girls, sub-junior boys and girls and senior men and women players participated in the Pencak Silat championship.
Students/athletes from far flung areas like Kanzalwan, Baktoor, Tulail, Badugam, Markoot and Dawar participated in the events with zeal and zest.
While addressing the participants, the chief guest said that the first ever official sports events were held in Gurez valley and students got opportunity to participate in their respective sports and displayed their skills in new sports, so that these students can also participate and represent Gurez valley at UT level as well as national level events
