District Jammu emerges champion in 22nd UT Taekwondo C’ship

JAMMU, Feb 15: District Jammu emerged overall champion, while District Udhampur and District Samba remained 1st and 2nd runners-up respectively in the 22nd Taekwondo Championship, which concluded at Jammu University, here today.
The Championship was organized by Jammu and Kashmir Taekwondo Association in collaboration with Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, at Gymnasium Hall, here.
A total of 800 players from different districts of J&K participated in this mega sporting event.
Rayees Mohd Bhatt, AIG Provisions and Transport Police Headquarter was the chief guest, while Ace Sports Administrator, Ranjeet Kalra, SM Bali, Vice President Taekwondo Association of India and Joint Secretary Indian Olympic Association, Dr CM Seith, retired IFS and Rauf Bhatt, President Secretariat Union were the guests of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest congratulated JKTA for organizing this mega event.
He said that JKTA is playing a great role in giving excellent platform to the youth of J&K Union Territory.
He also assured of every possible help to the organisers for promoting Taekwondo.
The chief guest and the other dignitaries distributed medals, trophies and certificates among the players and teams.
The trophies for active participation went to Districts Poonch, Budgam, Bandipora, Anantnag and Ganderbal, while the trophies for showing best sportsman spirit were bagged by District Srinagar, Jammu SAI, Doda, Baramulla and Pulwama.
The bouts were officiated by National Referees from other States/UTs under the technical supervision of Master Atul Pangotra, International Referee (Tournament Director), Master Sarabjeeet International Referee from Chandigarh (Referee Chairman of this Championship), Harish Tokas, Protector and Scoring System Chief analyser from Delhi and Vinod Grewal In-charge Office Staff for fixtures.
The proceedings of the function were conducted by Rajinder Singh, Physical Education Teacher and DN Pangotra, President JKTA, Chairman of Organising Committee.
The vote of thanks was presented by Sanjeet Sharma (PET).
