RAMBAN, May 24: In a major initiative to promote adventure tourism and highlight the tourism potential of the Chenab region, the Directorate of Tourism Jammu, in collaboration with the District Administration Ramban and Khah Charitable Trust, Neel, organized a two-day trekking expedition to Hansraj Peak from Neel Top.
The expedition was flagged off by Banihal MLA Sajjad Shaheen. Around 100 trekkers participated in the expedition, including eight female trekkers from Banihal, reflecting the growing enthusiasm among youth and women towards adventure tourism and outdoor activities.
During the first phase of the trek, participants covered 12 kilometers from Neel Top to Thalan, where night halt and camping arrangements were made amid scenic surroundings. On the second day, trekkers covered an additional 13 kilometers from Thalan to Hansraj Peak, witnessing lush meadows, pristine landscapes and panoramic mountain views.
A major attraction of the expedition was the participation of six-year-old master trekker Bhaktawser Sohil, whose determination and endurance inspired fellow trekkers throughout the journey. The expedition also witnessed participation from adventure enthusiasts from different parts of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly from the Chenab region.
Dr Vikas Gupta, Director Tourism Jammu said the region possesses immense potential for adventure and nature-based tourism. He stated that such initiatives would help develop emerging tourist destinations, create livelihood opportunities for local communities and encourage youth participation in constructive and productive activities. He further emphasized that adventure tourism promotes leadership qualities, teamwork, confidence and environmental awareness among young people.
Khah Charitable Trust, Neel expressed gratitude to the Directorate of Tourism Jammu and District Administration Ramban for organizing the expedition and urged the administration to continue promoting adventure activities in the Chenab region in the coming months.
