JAMMU, Jan 7: In order to give an impetus to Golf in Jammu and Kashmir State, explore some talent and enable beginners to have a firsthand experience of the sport, JK Golf Association (JKGA) today started the first ever week long coaching camp at Jammu Golf Course, Sidhra.
The coaching camp was inaugurated by Director Tourism, Jammu Soujanya Sharma who encouraged the participants and hoped that the training classes would prove beneficial for the beginners.
About 50 Junior Amateur participants drawn from different parts of the region and educational institutions were welcomed and encouraged to take up the sport by JKGA officials including Vice President of the organising committee, S S Wazir, Executive Committee members Sanjay Wahi, Treasurer R S Bali besides K K Khosa, Vinod Sharma, D S Bali and Deepak Handa. JKGA affiliated with J&K State Sports Council also provided clubs to the participants to facilitate their training programme.
PGTI coach Sandeep Verma popularly known as Chimi was especially roped in from Delhi to train the beginners who were given basic tips about golfing here at Jammu Gold Course, Sidhra. Ace golfers like Sanjay Wahi, Raghav Wahi, Bhawani Parpar and Deepak Handa also helped the coach in imparting basic training to the beginners.
The beginners were given basic golf tips including ball positioning, basics of correct grip, controlling the speed of putts, correct Tee height for fairway woods, hybrids, how to hold clubs, how to aim and how to chip, choosing the right club for a shot, how to hit from fairway rough, how to make proper practice swing, how to play half golf swing, postures and correct distance from where to hit the ball.
The beginners like Muskaan, Neha, Prerna, Vedant, Narbhay, Vijay, Nirdosh Trehan and Mehak Dua expressed their contentment over the coaching camp and hoped that it would help them in becoming good golfers. Speaking on the occasion, Vice President JKGA, S S Wazir said that that this coaching camp will be held in routine and hoped that JKGA under the benefaction of its Patron Dr Farooq Abdullah, Union Minister for Renewable Energy get a fillip.
