DC Jammu inaugurates Khelo India Games at Akhnoor

Over 1100 sports persons attend opening function

AKHNOOR, Oct 3: District Development Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar inaugurated ‘Khelo India’-Sports for Peace and Development, a Centrally Sponsored Scheme by Govt of India, in an impressive, colourful and well attended function at Govt Boys Higher Secondary School, here today.
The event, in which 1150 athletes are taking part, is being organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, District Jammu, under the overall supervision of Organising Secretary, Chanchal Kour, District Youth Services and Sports Officer Jammu.
The chief guest was accompanied by Suraya Jabeen, Additional District Development Commissioner, Jammu; Madan Lal, Joint Director Youth Services and Sports, Jammu; Gopal Singh, Sub Divisional Magistrate Akhnoor; Chanchal Kour, District Youth Services and Sports Officer Jammu; Devinder Manhas, Deputy Chief Education Officer, Jammu, besides Principals of both the Hr Secondary Schools of Akhnoor KK Badyal and SS Rathore.
While inaugurating the tournament, the chief guest advised the students to play the game and play it well and show sportsman spirit.
He also lavished praise on the organisers for holding the programme in a befitting manner.
On the occasion, the chief guest also interacted with the players of Under-19 boys Volleyball teams of Jourian and Akhnoor Zones.
Earlier, DYSSO Jammu presented welcome address and gave brief report of the event.
The Opening Ceremony of event was organized by 4 Zones namely Jourian, Akhnoor, Khour and Cowki Choura.
In Volleyball Under-19 boys, Jourian Zone defeated Akhnoor Zone by 2-1 sets, while in Kabaddi Under-19 girls, Akhnoor Zone beat Chowki Choura Zone by 10 points.
The matches of Volleyball and Kabaddi were officiated by Vijay Sharma, Ramesh Chander, Ram Murti and Ranjeet Singh.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Zonal Physical Education Officers of District Jammu namely Jeet Singh, Jaswant Singh Manhas, Om Parkash, HK Koul, Kiran Jyoti, Anju Gupta, Chander Kanta, Veena Tikoo and Ravi Manhas.
The proceedings of the programme were conducted by PEMs Rajinder Kotwal and Raman Gupta.
Meanwhile, Principal Sainik school Nagrota, captain A MuthuRaman inaugurated the block level tournament under centrally sponsored scheme ” Khelo India” for boys and girls in Kabaddi, Kho-kho, Volleyball, Wrestling and Cricket under the age group of 6 to 12 yrs, 13 to 16 yrs and 17 to 19 yrs today at Sainik School Nagrota.
About 400 players are participating in this tournament being organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, Zone Dansal, under the supervision of Tarsem Singh, ZPEO Dansal.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Omeshwar Sanyal, Taqdir Singh, Kulbhushan Sharma, Rajiv Kotwal, Romesh Padha, Sanjit Sharma, Radha Bakshi, Dheeraj Paul, Subah Chander, Rajiv Kotwal, Karnail Singh, Sunny Dogra and Jyoti Kumari.
In Volleyball Under-16 boys, HSS Gundla beat HS Nagrota by 2-0 sets, while in Volleyball under-19 boys, HSS Jandrah beat HSS Dansal by 2-1 sets and HSS Kathar trounced Heema Public School Jagti by 2-0 sets.
In Kabaddi under-16 boys, HS Nagrota drubbed HSS Dansal by 26-05 points and Rising Star beat MS Seri Kalan by 20-16 points, while in Kabaddi U-19, HSS Jandrah beat HSS Dansal by 25-12 points.
In Kho-Kho Under-16 years, HS Nagrota outplayed Sarswati School by 10-05 points, while in Kho-Kho Under-19 boys, HSS Nagrota beat HS Nagrota by 11-06 points.
