JAMMU, Feb 3: A daylong Chess event in blitz and bullet format was organised by All Jammu and Kashmir Chess Association at New Sports Hall, MA Stadium, here today.
The event was declared open by Divisional Sports Officer Jammu, J&K Sports Council which witnessed good numbers of participation.
Senior players including Manoj Kohli, Maxim Singh, Ashutosh Jamwal, Arvindu and Ritish Pathania also participated in the daylong, whereas Atul Kumar Gupta president All J&K Chess Association and vice president Baldev Raj also attended the function and made arrangements for this first of its kind event, held in the newly established hall at M A Stadium, here.
The event started with prayer to seek blessings for future endeavours as well. Speaking on the occasion, the Divisional Sports Officer said, “Sportspersons are the messengers of peace, prosperity and harmony and the events like this help youth to hone their sporting skills besides keeping them away from anti social activities.”
He further said that the Sports Council is committed to promote each sport in every nook and corner of Union Territory to enhance sports culture among youth.
Atul Kumar Gupta on behalf of Chess Association thanked the Council Secretary Nuzhat Gul for the new initiative to fulfil the long pending demand of the chess players. He also assured that the Association will continue to provide the best possible platform to players in future with the support of the Sports Council.
