Anantnag, Aug 23: A league match of cricketers with visual disabilities was organized by Humanity Welfare Organization Helpline in collaboration with Government Model Higher Secondary School for Boys Bijbehara here today.
Nasreena, Principal along with staff members of Model Higher Secondary School Bijbehara hosted the cricket match and provided all sorts of support. The match was inaugurated by Javed Ahmad Tak, Padma Shri Awardee, a renowned advocate of the disability sector.
Twenty two players with visual disabilities from Kulgam, Anantnag, Shopian, Pulwama, Srinagar, Budgam and Baramulla participated in the cricket match.
Two teams Central 11 under the captainship of Showkat Ahmad Lone and South 11 under the leadership of Abid Nayak played an interesting match. South 11 won the toss and elected to bat and they made 107 runs while chasing the score Central 11 batting collapsed at 60 runs and South-11 won the match by 47 runs. Sahil was declared as man of the match. Junaid Bhatti was declared as best bowler.
Javed Ahmad Tak appealed Jammu Kashmir Cricket Association to provide registrations to cricket clubs of youth with different disabilities. In addition he appealed Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Secretary to provide budgets for cricket tournaments for organizing more events for cricketers with different disabilities.
