Court stays Sri Lanka cricket board election

Colombo, May 30:
The Court of Appeal in Sri Lanka has stopped the election in the national cricket board, SLC, scheduled for tomorrow.
A three-member Appeals Court bench issued the order holding up the election until June 14 in response to a petition filed by Nishantha Ranatunga against the incumbent Thilanga Sumathipala.
Ranatunga had claimed Sumathipala was not suitable to hold the SLC president’s position
Ranatunga, the brother of the former World Cup winning captain Arjuna, was vying for the presidency. He is a former vice-president and secretary in the board.
He was to be Sumathipala’s main rival in the election that was scheduled to take place tomorrow. (PTI)
