JAMMU, May 11: Department of Commerce and School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (SHTM) registered convincing victories over their rivals in the Inter-Department Cricket Tournament, being organised by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education at University grounds, here.
Earlier, in the first match played today, Commerce Department defeated Chemistry Department by 9 wickets in an easy contest.
Batting first, Chemistry Department scored a modest total of 61 runs in 10 overs by losing 4 wickets. Mohd Yawer and Muhesh 20 and 15 runs to the total respectively. Sahil and Abhilash took 1 wicket each for Commerce Department.
In reply, Commerce Department chased the target in 9.5 overs by losing 1 wicket to win the match by 9 wickets. Shamsher top scored with 20 runs, while Shubham and Sahil contributed 13 runs each. Mukesh took the lone wicket to fall.
In another match, SHTM defeated Biotechnology Department by 28 runs.
Batting first, SHTM scored a decent total of 93 runs in the stipulated 10 overs. Satvik, Bijonder and Aditya contributed 27, 22 and 20 runs the total respectively. For Biotechnology Department, Ishu, Ajit and Karandeep claimed one wicket each.
In reply, Biotechnology Department managed to score 65 runs in the allotted overs by losing 9 wickets, thus lost the match by 28 runs. Vishal and Amit scored 13 runs each, while Sajan contributed 11 runs to the total. Rakesh was the pick of the bowlers for SHTM, who bagged 4impoertant wickets, while Mursel and Kamal took 3 and 2 wickets respectively.
The matches were officiated by Saleem-ur-Rehman, Suresh Singh, Raman Kumar, Vijay Kumar and Vinod.
