Chanchal inaugurates girls Basketball, Softball, Throw Ball Tournaments

JAMMU, May 11: District Youth Services and Sports Officer (DYSSO) Jammu inaugurated the Inter School District Level Tournament for girls in the sports disciplines of Basketball, Softball and Throw Ball Under-14 and Under-17 years for the year 2018-19 of District Jammu in an impressive and well attended function at MA Stadium/Dogra ground, Shastri Nagar, here today.
In all, 408 girls drawn from 14 Zones of Jammu District are taking part in the competitions, which are being organized by Department of Youth Services & Sports, under the patronage of Shiekh Fayaz Ahmad, Director General, Youth Services & Sports and under the overall supervision of Madan Lal, Joint Director Youth Services & Sports Jammu. Mrs Kour, DYSSO Jammu is the Organizing Secretary of the tournament.
The main objective of the competitions is to select the teams of Jammu District for the Inter District Division Level competitions.
Speaking on the occasion, DYSSO Jammu advised the students to be in touch with their respective games for yielding better results, adding that sports and games are two sides of the same coin.
Earlier, in Under-17 girls Softball finals, Carmel convent beat GHSS Rehari by 5-2 homes, while in semifinals, GHSS Rehari trounced GHSS Canal Road by 3-2 homes, while Carmel Convent drubbed HSS Paloura by 4-3 homes.
In Under-17 girls Basketball, Jodhamal Public School beat Banyan International School by 20 points, MHAC Nagbani trounced MIER by 9 points, APS Ratnuchak outplayed APS Domana by 17 points and Jodhamal Public School got the better of SOS Herman School by 23 points
In Under-14 girls Basketball, Jodhamal Public School beat Banyan International by 10-2 points, APS Ratnuchak defeated GD Goenka by 8-4 points and Jodhamal School prevailed over Carmel Convent by 2-0 points.
In Under-17 girls Throw Ball, MHAC Nagbani thrashed Celestial Public School by 25-12, 25-18 and in Under-14 girls Throw Ball, GD Goenka beat Celestial Public School by 25-18, 25-23.
The matches were officiated by Vishal Bharti, Harvinder Sodi, Verinder, Rita Devi, Vikram Dogra, Sunny Dogra, Sanjay Khajuria, Honey Mehra and Aryan Gandotra.
Meanwhile, the District Level Inter Zonal cricket tournament got underway at Sports Stadium, Udhampur, today.
The tournament is being organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports under the patronage of Sheikh Fayaz Ahmed, Director General Youth Services & Sports and under overall supervision of District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Sudesh Kumar Chalotra.
104 boys drawn from different 8 Zones of District Udhampur are taking part in the tournament.
During the tournament, Zone Udhampur defeated Zone Babey by 4 wickets and entered in the semifinal, while Zone Jib defeated Zone Kulwanta to seal berth in the semifinal.
The matches were officiated by Sh Raj Kumar, Raman Gupta, Rakesh Khajuria, Rajesh Sharma, Raj Kumar,Raman Sharma, Rakesh Kumar and Jagdish Kumar.
