JAMMU, May 8: Chairperson, IAS Officers’ Wives Association, Ruby Sharma flagged off an eight member team of Tawi Trekkers J&K for Dharamshala to undertake a trekking expedition from Mcleodganj to Triund area (10000ft) in Dhauladhar range of Himalaya.
The team led by Joint Secretary of the club Sonam Sidharth includes trained mountaineers Manik Slathia, Shashi Kant, Ambreen Fatima and sport climbers Mrityunjay Sharma, Asma Gul, Sakshi Magotra and Nitya Sharma.
The trekkers will trek for 9 kms through mixed forest of deodar, oak and rhododendron to reach Triund, a meadow situated at an altitude of about 10000ft. The beautiful camping place commands a panoramic view of whole Kangra valley on one side and Dhuladhar mountain range on the other. From here the trekkers after reaching the snow line shall return back to Macleodganj, the seat of Dalai Lama.
Ruby Sharma advised the Secretary of the club Shawetica Khajuria to organize some trekking expeditions exclusively for girls and also include more girls in club’s future activities so as to empower them to achieve greater heights in future and bring honour to the state by scaling formidable peaks.
Senior Vice President of Tawi Trekkers J&K Ram Khajuria who is also General Secretary of Mountaineering Association of J&K and Secretary Indian Mountaineering Foundation, North Zone Committee, New Delhi apprised Chairperson IASOWA, Ruby Sharma that Mountaineering Association of J&K has started a monthly series of North Zone Women Sport Climbing Competition in order to promote sport climbing among women in J&K. He also informed her that sufficient number of women climbers will also be included in the forthcoming mountaineering expedition to Matho Kangri in Leh to be organized by Mountaineering Association of J&K during August and being sponsored by J&K State Sports Council.
