JAMMU, Nov 24: The varied hues of Jammu & Kashmir dominated Carmel Convent School, Jammu as it celebrated the annual day with its trademark flamboyance and grace at the school campus today. Based on the thematic presentation ‘Exploring Jammu & Kashmir’ the event comprised of a colourful cultural event that enthralled the audience and an exhibition that celebrated the rich natural, cultural and religious heritages of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.
The day’s proceedings began with invocation to the Almighty through a beautifully choreographed prayer dance by the students, which was preceded by lighting of the traditional lamp by the dignitaries.
Sheena Sahni, alumnus of the School and presently a KAS Officer was the chief guest  on the occasion.
Without hiding her emotions Sahni gratefully acknowledged the contributions of the school in shaping her life.
“Life in Carmel was more than pursuance of academic excellence. It was more of moulding a holistic personality; learning to rationalize actions, learning to differentiate between good and bad and developing a sense of compassion which is needed in today’s world,” she recalled.
Spectacular performances by the students showcased the cultural heritage of the state starting with the depiction of the Dogra marriage rituals and dances in Jammu. The plot then quietly shifted to the elegant valleys of Kashmir and to the tunes of ‘bhomro bhomro’ and ‘rosh wala meyan dilbaro’ in full grace and elegance, which later culminated in a soothing Ladakhi dance that portrayed the sublime nature of the region and its people.
Rt. Rev. Ivan Pereira, the President of the Diocese of Jammu-Srinagar Education Society was all praise for the students for their flawless performances. He lauded the efforts of Sr. Maria Swati, the Principal for knitting together such amazing programme that offered a peek into the splendor of our State.
Later, Bishop Ivan inaugurated the exhibition and keenly observed the stalls in all the counters and interacted with the students.
Ridhima Pragal and Ritika Choudhary skillfully conducted the ceremonies. Shivani Rasgotra, the School Pupil Leader proposed the vote of thanks.
