JAMMU, Nov 29: Brilliant knocks by Anil and Pardeep Bali guided Media XI Cricket Club Jammu to register win over Singh Cricket Club Akhnoor (SCC) by 10 runs in a nail biting T-20 cricket match, played at GGM Science College Hostel Ground, here today.
After winning the toss, Media-XI led by skipper Vivek Suri elected to bat first. Anil with 74 runs and Pardeep Bali with 73 runs showed their batting prowess by treating SCC bowlers with a lot of disdain, as the duo hit 17 boundaries and 5 towering sixes. Both Anil and Pardeep stitched a 110 runs partnership for the second wicket which helped Media-XI to post 161 runs on scoreboard by losing just two wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. SCC tried eight bowlers but remained ineffective with ball and failed to match up to Binny (4-0-2-23).
While chasing, SCC opener Nitin got life on the very first ball as Yash Khajuria at extra cover couldn’t get hold on the ball and dropped a dolly. Capitalizing the lifeline, Nitin started steadily and would have fancied SSC’s chances to chase down the target but Media XI bowlers spearheaded by Amar (4-0-3-22) bowled with tight line and length and forced SCC batters to take chances. Nitin remained the top scorer for SCC with 57 runs, while Deepak scored 26 runs and Jadwinder made 14 runs. Mohit and Satish contributed with 13 runs each. Amar (3/22) from Media-XI remained the wrecker in chief whereas Vivek, Rahul, Dev and Nitin shared wicket apiece.
It was a nail biting match between Media-XI and Singh Cricket Club as the latter lost the match by just 10 runs.
Later, during the post match presentation chief guest, Mohit Puri vice-president JKCA Jammu District and guest of honour Sham Singh Langeh general secretary JKCA Jammu district were felicitated and presented bouquets.
The chief guest encouraged the winning captain Vivek Suri for putting up a competitive performance on the field besides he presented ‘Batsman of the Match’ award to Media-XI’s Pardeep Bali whereas Mohit Puri and Sham Singh Langeh presented ‘Bowler of the Match’ award to Media XI’s Amar.
While speaking, Sham Singh Langeh also encouraged the participating players of both the teams. He appealed to the youth of Jammu to participate in sports activities to keep their body mentally and physically fit.
Vivek Suri, skipper Media-XI presented the vote of thanks.
