JAMMU, Aug 4: In view of the COVID-19 pandemic, U-16 tournaments were not organised in 2020-21 and 2021-22 by the BCCI. It has now clarified its position regarding participation of boys in U-19 Tournaments; this was stated by Brigadier Anil Gupta, Member Administration, Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) in an official handout.
The statement said for season 2020-21, boys who were eligible as per their chronological age in 2020-21 season but could not play owing to cancellation of Vijay Merchant U-16 tournament due to pandemic, but now they will be eligible to participate in u-19 tournaments subject to them having valid birth certificate.
The statement said in cases, where their birth is registered within 2 years of their birth, they will be eligible to play for 4 Seasons maximum and in cases where their birth is registered after 2 years of their birth; they will be eligible to play for 2 seasons maximum.
For 2021-22 season, boys who passed the AVP test in 2021-22 season but could not play owing to cancellation of Vijay Merchant U-16 tournament due to COVID pandemic, will be eligible to participate in U-19 tournaments subject to them having valid birth certificate.
The boys who did not pass the AVP test in the 2021-22 season will be eligible to play U-19 tournaments subject to them having a valid birth certificate. In cases, where their birth is registered within 2 years of their birth, they will be eligible to play for 2 seasons maximum and in cases where their birth is registered after 2 years of their birth; they will be eligible to play for one season maximum.
Brig. Gupta further informed that under Age Verification Program of the BCCI, a skeletal maturity test in the form of bone test of U-16 Boys and U-15 Girls players will be conducted for the season 2023-24.
For JKCA players, it will be organized at Srinagar and Jammu on 7 and 8 August, 2023 respectively. The names of the affected players have already been uploaded on the Association’s website www.jkca.tv. All the boys and girls whose names have been uploaded are required to submit their Original DOB and school mark sheets for the previous three years at the Association’s office at Jammu and Srinagar.
The statement said the players have to carry updated Aadhar Card as a Photo ID Proof. It has been clarified by the BCCI that only UIDAI issued PVC Aadhar Card with proper QR code will be accepted as photo id. The cut off age for U-16 boys will be “born on or after 1st September, 2007 but on or before 31st August, 2009″ and for U-15 girls will be ‘born on or after 1September, 2008 but on or after 31 August, 2010.” All players are advised to report at the intimated venues well in time, stated Brig. Gupta.
