Basaat, Anjna, Rakshanda emerge winners in inter-college competition

JAMMU, Sept 17: Science Club of Government College for Women (GCW) Udhampur in collaboration with J&K State Science, Technology and Innovation Council, Department of Science and Technology, District Office Udhampur organized inter-college poster making and presentation competition on the theme “Global Warming-Effects and Causes”.
Thirty-two students drawn from GDC Udhampur, GCW Udhampur, GDC Ramnagar and Bhaskar Degree College Udhampur participated in the event.
The event was sponsored by Dr Sanjay Kharoo, District Coordinator, Science, Technology and Innovation Council, Udhampur.
Earlier, Dr Bhavnaish Chand, Convener of the Science Club apprised the participants about the theme and its importance. He spoke that there are many contributing factors for Global warming, some of which are emission of gases into atmosphere, pollution and people’s wasteful habits. Global warming affects many aspects of environment, including sea levels, agriculture, forestry and wild-life, he stated.
Addressing the participants, Prof KS Koushal, Principal of the college and chief guest of the occasion said that due to human activities average surface temperature on the earth is rising and experts estimate that it will rise further and will pose serious problems for living beings.
Dr Bhavnaish Chand, HOD Physics, Prof Sumita Rao from Department of Zoology and Prof Ravinder Kour from Department of Physics were in the panel of experts to adjudge the students.
First and second prizes in the competition were bagged by Basaat Choudhary and Anjna Kumari respectively from GCW Udhampur, while third prize was clinched by Rakshanda Bhat from GDC Udhampur. The consolation prizes were shared by Parul Oberoi and Sonika Sharma from GCW Udhampur and Sakshi Thapa from Bhaskar Degree College Udhampur.
Among others present were Dr Nalini Pathania, HOD English, Prof Kuldeep Raj, Dr Ashok Kumar and Prof Brinder Kumar.
