JAMMU, Apr 14: Superb knock of unbeaten 82 runs by promising batsman Avinash Jamwal and a splendid knock of 54 runs by Jatin Wadhawan helped JKP Cricket XI trounce Simula Cricket Club by 5 wickets in a thrilling contest to lift the 3rd Baisakhi Cricket Premier League title at KC Sports Club ground, here today.
Shantmanu, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu was the chief guest in the valedictory function, while Kuldeep Jhar, IGP CRPF and Ranjeet Kalra, Member BCCI were the guests of honour. The chief guest and the other dignitaries distributed prizes among the winners and runners-up teams.
Earlier, in the summit clash, Simula Cricket Club won the toss and elected to bat first to score 159 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Hardeep Singh top scored with 66 runs off 44 balls, while Shashi ( 28 off 26 balls) and Anshuman (24 off 15 balls) were the other major contributors. For JKP XI, Rompy Sharma and Arvind took 2 wickets each, while Shamsher Singh Manhas and Vishal Singh Bhau claimed 1 wicket each.
In reply, JKP XI chased the target in a thrilling contest on the last ball of the match as the team needed 7 runs in last two balls, with Naresh hitting a six on the penultimate ball and a boundary on the last one to give his side an emphatic victory. The highlight of the JKP XI innings was a brilliant knock of unbeaten 82 runs by Avinash Jamwal, who well supported by Jatin, contributing valuable 54 runs to the total. For Simula Club, Dhruv Mahajan took 2 wickets and Hardeep Singh claimed one. Avinash Jamwal of JKP was adjudged man of the match, while Rompy Sharma of JKP XI was declared best bowler, Avinash Jamwal the best batsman and Hardeep Singh, man of the series.
Speaking on the occasion, Divisional Commissioner Jammu lavished praise for the organizers for conducting the event smoothly and successfully on the occasion of Baisakhi and said that it is the best way to celebrate the festival of Baisakhi.
He said sports teach commitment and punctuality and advised the budding sportspersons to play the game with enthusiasm and spirit and keep State’s flag high at the National scene.
Ranjeet Kalra in his address also greeted the JKP XI skipper and his team for exciting win and appreciated the organizing team for conducting sports events regularly on major festivals with an objective to promote communal harmony and peace and promote sports culture as well.
The tournament was organized jointly by Simula Group, KC Sports and J&K Police. The prizes of the tournament were sponsored by Col Maralidharan, Commander 32 BRTF Project Beacon. Simula Group of Companies and KC Sports Club were the other Sponsors of the Tournament. The Organizing Committee included Hilal Rather, Arjun Chodhary, Rajesh Dhar, Asif Gill, Shashi Paul, Suhail and Rajesh Gill, former Ranji trophy player, organizing secretary.
The final match was officiated by Sunil Sambyal and Anand Tripathi as the umpires, while Faisal was the scorer.
