KISHTWAR, Apr 15: The grand finale of the J&K Martyrs T-20 Cricket Tournament was held today at Chowgan Ground, Kishtwar, marked by patriotic fervour and vibrant enthusiasm. Organized under the Civic Action Programme to honour the brave martyrs of the nation, the tournament aimed to promote sportsmanship, discipline and unity among the youth.
This year’s edition witnessed a record participation of 109 teams, including three girls’ teams, reflecting increasing youth and female engagement in sports across the district.
The final was contested between Asrariya Cricket Club and Kishtwar Warriors, where Asrariya CC clinched the title with a 77-run victory in a thrilling encounter. The event drew a large audience, including Next of Kin (NoKs) of martyrs, retired police personnel, and enthusiastic spectators.
SSP Kishtwar, Javaid Iqbal Mir was the chief guest who was accompanied by Addl. SP Pawan Sharma, SDPO Marwah, DySP Headquarters and officers from CAPFs and the Police Department.
In his address, SSP Mir emphasized the importance of such events in commemorating martyrs and channelizing youth energy into constructive avenues like sports. He appreciated the participation of girls and the efforts of the organizing committee. The winning team was awarded Rs 50,000, while the runners-up received Rs 25,000. Awards for Best Batsman, Best Bowler, and Player of the Tournament were also presented, acknowledging individual excellence and overall sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
