JAMMU, May 11: Arun Sharma Sports and Social Welfare Trust today honoured outstanding sportspersons of Jammu and Kashmir on their promotion to the Gazetted rank of Deputy Superintendents of Police (DySPs) in Jammu and Kashmir Police.
The Trust hosted a get together for prominent sports personalities which was attended besides others by member trustee, Rajeshwar Singh, SSP Crime; senior Journalist, Nishikant Khajuria, Ashutosh Sharma, Pawan Suri, all member trustee and DySP (Railways) and prominent marathon runner, Naresh Sharma besides other national and international players of J&K.
After doing the honours, senior JKPS officer, Rajeshwar Singh was all praise for the sportspersons present in the gathering terming them as role models for the younger generations.
He said that J&K Police have been providing young talent the much needed platform in various disciplines of sports to groom and excel as part of the belt force’s Central teams. Besides giving opportunities to the raw talent in the lower ranks, the JKP enrol outstanding sportspersons directly as officers in recognition of their achievements.
Earlier, member trustee Ashutosh Sharma introduced all the newly promoted DySPs with visiting SSP Crime, Rajeshwar Singh.
Among those felicitated with award of honour by the Trust included Dronacharya Awardee, Kuldeep Handoo, international players, Akshay Khajuria (Handball), Daljit Singh (Weightlifting), Bharat Sharma (Basketball), Sajjad Hussain (Volleyball), Rajesh Anand (Skating), Bhupinder Singh (Football) and Sharat Chander Singh (Athletics) and Devinder Singh (Handball).
