Annual Athletic Meet of Sainik School Nagrota declared open

JAMMU, Oct 15: The 38th Annual Athletic Meet of Sainik School Nagrota got off to a colourful start at the school Mini Stadium, today.
An impressive march past by the four houses namely Chenab, Jhelum, Sindh and Trikuta was led by the Cadet Uday Kiran Jamwal. Soon after the lighting of the Athletic torch, Cadet Kumar Saurav administered oath to the participants.
The 3-day Athletic Meet was formally declared ‘open’ by Colonel Kapil Dev Koushal, principal of the school. The major highlights of the inaugural day’s events included 200 m, 400 m and 300 m Run, Shot-put and Discus Throw.
Earlier, as a precursor to the Annual Athletics, an exciting Cross Country Race was organized to warm up the cadets for a variety of track and field events. The junior cadets covered a distance of 6 kms while the seniors had to run 12 kms. The race was flagged-off by principal of the school at 6 am from the school Mini Stadium.
The winners namely cadet Kumar Saurav (senior category) and cadet Aabid Maqbool (junior category) were awarded medals and certificates by the Principal. Jhelum House clinched the cross country championship in both categories.
