ANANTNAG, Feb 2: Anantnag Blues after winning ‘Duroo Women’s Premiere League’ today began its tour to Mumbai and Pune where they are set to play few friendly matches with the local cricketing teams and up-skill themselves during the tour.
The Indian Army has coordinated the transportation and suitable kitting of the Anantnag girl’s cricket team to Pune. Major General Rashim Ball, GOC Victor Force and Mrs Rashim Bali today interacted with the team in Larkipora, Anantnag over tea before their departure to Pune.
Earlier, the League was organised by 19 Rashtriya Rifles (SIKH LI ) under the aegis of 2 Sector Rashtriya Rifles ( Victor Force ) in collaboration with ASEEM Foundation in October 2020 in which four local women’s cricket teams had participated. Anantnag Blue had won the tournament in a fabulous display of skill and determination.
The ASEEM Foundation had promised to sponsor the tour of the winning team to Pune and Mumbai and conduct friendly matches with local teams of Pune and Mumbai.
“This is an excellent opportunity for these young Kashmiri girls who have excelled in Cricket to get a first-hand exposure of life in a cosmopolitan and a metro city,” the organizers said.
Major General Rashim Ball and Mrs Rashim Bali exhorted upon the team to take this opportunity to see how other children and girls are working hard to excel in sports and also appreciate the rich cultural heritage of Pune and Mumbai.
They asked the team to come back with experience and share it with their friends and families.
Team Anantnag XI is a 14-member squad including one Physiotherapist. Most of the girls are from Anantnag district and come from humble backgrounds.
The girls have broken the gender barrier and worked hard to pursue their dream of playing cricket Captain of the team.
Rubia Syed was also quite excited about this tour and on behalf of her team, she thanked GOC Victor Force and Commander 2 Sector Rashtriya Rifles and ASEEM Foundation for making this possible.
