Akbar continues his dominance in cycling arena

BUDGAM, May 5: The only international cyclist of State Akbar Khan who plays for Mirza Sons proved his mettle again in a cycle race after finishing first at Check-i-Kawoosa in District Budgam on today.
The race was organized by Chinar Sports Development Association.
Vice Chairman Budgam Sports Council, Rifat Abdullah flagged off the race in presence of Ajaz Bashir from J&K Bank, which sponsored the event.
The race started from Chinar Colony Check -i-Kawoosa and culminated at Kawoosa Khalisa . The race was completed in seven laps where cyclists covered distance of 42 kms.
Akbar Khan of Mirza Sons defeated his competitors by a margin of 1km. Akbar took lead in fourth lap and later  dominated the race. Adil Teli of Arco Cements secured second place, while Waheed Ahmad bagged third place in the race.
Theimpact of training received by Akbar Khan at Sports Authority of India Centre New Delhi was visible when he took a huge lead of about one Kilometer at the end of the race.
Large number of locals including women witnessed the competition early in the morning on Srinagar Gulmarg highway. The organizers appreciated the role of Police Station Magam who regulated traffic very smoothly during the event.
On the concluding ceremony of the race, Mr Rifat and Mr Aijaz distributed prizes among the winners.
Addressing the players and spectators on the occasion, Rifat Abdullah highlighted the importance of sports in day today life of youth. He said that Kawoosa has become a hub of cycling activities and there is need to promote the sport in the area at a large scale. He also announced that a mega National level cycling event would be organized in next two months at Kawoosa during the night under Street lights which are already functional on Gulmarg highway from Narbal to Mazhama. Meanwhile, in junior category, Pervaiz Ahmad Sheer Gujri of Boys Hr Secondary School bagged the first place, while Saqub Sheikh of Toyota Ansari and Monis Ismail of Gazala Memoral School bagged second and third positions respectively.
