SAMBA, Jan 25: The first edition of Central University of Jammu Marathon ‘Run for Unity’ was flagged off by the Vice Chancellor, Prof Ashok Aima in the University Campus, here today.
Organised by the Directorate of Physical Education, the students, faculty and staff and students from schools in the vicinity of University, KV CUJ; Hr Secondary Schools of Rahya participated in the Marathon.
Speaking on the occasion, the Vice Chancellor underscored the significance of channelizing the energies of youth in such activities and said that the campus of CUJ is an ideal setting for such marathons.
To this Prof Devanand Padha added that the University is holding such events under Fit India Movement on regular basis.
The Director-in-Charge of the Directorate of Physical Education, Dr Vandana Sharma shared the vision of the Directorate which is to develop and promote sports culture among the youth for overall development of their personality.
She further stated that the Directorate has recently formed a Fitness Club which will organise such fitness activities like nature walk, cross country, cyclothon on periodic basis.
During a run on the garland road of 3.2 Kms stretch in the University Campus, the participants were given a finisher medal. Ram Krishan and Wasir Ali from Higher Secondary School Rahya won the first and second medal respectively whereas Sahil Sharma from MBA TTM stood third. Amongst girls, Badal Minjan, a PhD scholar from Department of Education, stood first; Priya Rani from Mass communication stood second whereas Jasmeet Kaur from NSS stood third. Among the faculty, Prof Rasal Singh, Dean School of Languages took the lead amongst the male faculty and Dr Shweta Kohli stood first amongst the female faculty.
