JAMMU, Feb 27: Winter School-2023 on “Hands on Training on Instrumentation and Analytical Techniques for Atmospheric Aerosol Measurements and Source Apportionment Studies” concluded today in the campus of Central University of Jammu (CUJ).
The event was jointly organized by the Department of Environmental Sciences, CUJ and Indian National Young Academy of Sciences (INYAS). The momentous kick off ceremony of the event took place on 20th February with the inaugural address of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha in the presence of Prof Sanjeev Jain (guest of honor), Prof Sachchida Nand Tripathi (NKN coordinator, NCAP; IIT Kanpur), guest of honour Arun Kumar Mehta (Chief Secretary J&K) and special guest Dheeraj Gupta (Principal Secretary, Department of Forest, Ecology and Environment, J&K).
In his inaugural address, LG Manoj Sinha stressed upon the participation of all the stakeholders to solve the problem of air pollution in J&K. He appreciated the efforts taken by CUJ along with JKPCC under the mentorship of Prof S N Tripathi for establishing Himalayan Aerosol Research Instrumentation (HARI) facility and for other activities of Aerosol Research Group (ARG), CUJ.
The convener of the winter school Dr Shweta Yadav in consultation with eminent aerosol scientists conceptualized this six-day intensive training programme to impart training to faculty/scientists/scholars of various institutions as well as representatives from pollution control boards and other Government departments.
This winter school was a blend of in-class theory based tutorials and hands-on operational training where various national and international experts including Prof SN Tripathi (IIT Kanpur), Prof Neeraj Rastogi (PRL, Ahmedabad), Prof Jayant K Tripathi (JNU, New Delhi) and Prof Sudesh Yadav (JNU, New Delhi), delivered lectures/training.
More than 35 lectures with an intensive schedule of hands-on training on various high end instruments available at CUJ were completed during this school.
Various CUJ faculty members also delivered the lectures and shared their views under the theme “Scope of interdisciplinary research in achieving Clean Air Goals”.
