Advisor Khan emphasizes youth participation in sports activities

JAMMU, Jan 16: Sports is integral to curriculum which help in building healthy mind and body thus ensuring overall personality development of youth, stated Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Farooq Khan while speaking at the valedictory function of 26th Men free style, Greeco-Roman style and 12th Women Wrestling Championship, organised by J&K Wrestling Association, here today.
Advisor said that the UT administration is committed to provide best avenues and infrastructure to sportspersons so as to channelize their energy towards a positive direction. He said that such events provide appropriate platform to players to exhibit their sports potential besides polishing it further.
He lauded the role of organizers in conducting such sports activities in Jammu and Kashmir which are significant towards encouraging young talents participate in such competitions and make a name for themselves and the UT and Nation as well.
While presenting awards to the winners in different categories, Advisor motivated the young generation to participate in sports and extracurricular activities and stressed on the need to create bigger platforms for young sportsmen to display their talent and skills besides promoting the local talent at higher level.
The winners of Men Free Style in 57 kg, Ajeet Malhotra of Jammu, Bopinder Singh of Kathua and Rahul Mehra of Jammu got 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively, whereas in 61 kg, Saleem of Kathua, Vicku Sharma of JKP and Mohd Shanat of Jammu clinched first three positions respectively and in 65 kg, Sunny Sharma of JKP, Deepak Kumar of Jammu and Iqbal Mohd of Jammu bagged first three positions respectively. In 70 kg, Munir Hussain, Arif Khan and Mohd Ghulam clinched first three positions respectively, while in 74 kg, Mohd Hariz , Mohd Saleem and Mohd Jaya got first three positions respectively and in 80 kg, Rajesh Sharma, Harman Hussain and Bah Hussain got 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.
In 92 kg, Abdul Rashid, Nadeem and Abhishek Manhas bagged first three places respectively, whereas Benia Amin, Nisar Ahmed and Sanjay Kumar bagged first three places in 98 kg and in 125 kg, Ishaq Ammed, Liyaqat Ali and Radhay Krishan clinched first three positions respectively.
In Greeco Roman style 60 kg, Rohit Singh, Sunil Singh and Gagan Deep Rambal bagged first three positions respectively, whereas in 67 kg, Sahil Sharma, Sahil Baloria and Umar-Bin Rasheed clinched 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively and in 72 kg, Surya Dev, Sukhvinder Singh and Maqsood Ahmed got first three places respectively. In 77 kg, Pankaj Kumar, Riyaz Hussain, Sushil Singh got 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively, whereas in 87 kg Bahadur Khan, Ranjeet Singh and Vireshwar Bhardwaj bagged first three places respectively and in 97 kg, Roshan Sharma, Shubham Singh, Ali Mohd got 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively besides, in 130 kg, Diler Khan, Surinder Singh and Javid Khan bagged first three places respectively.
In women 50 kg, Pooja Devi, Mousmi Choudhary and Mehul Sharma clinched 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively, while 57 kg, Samriti and Nitika Sharma clinched 1st and 2nd places respectively and Riya Chib, Gulshan Bibi and Vishali Devi bagged first three places in 65 kg besides in 72 kg, Jaspreet Kour, Mansi Dogra and Sukriti Sharma got first three places respectively.
