KARGIL, Feb 16: Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Kargil Ghulam Muhammad declared open the Annual 2020 Ladakh Winter Sports Carnival and Ice Hockey Skating Championship at Ice Hockey Rink Bemathang here.
The 4 days winter carnival and ice hockey skating championship has been jointly organized by the Kargil Ice and Snow Sports Club in collaboration with Letsleh.com in which a total of 6 teams are participating.
Speaking on the occasion, the ADC while appreciating the efforts of the organizers for having organized this event expressed optimism that it will go a long way in providing the young players and ice hockey enthusiasts knowledge and technical knowhow of the game which would help them improve their game and pursue it in a professional manner.
The ADC further said that Kargil possesses tremendous potential for winter sports on account of its climatic and geographical conditions. He urged the younger generation to take full benefit from this natural gift to polish their ice and snow ski skills under the guidance of coaches and senior players.
The ADC said that all out efforts would be made to construct the village ponds as multipurpose pond-cum-ice hockey rinks which would prove instrumental for development of Ice Hockey at village level in the district in future.
Earlier, General Secretary Kargil Ice and Snow Sports Club Kargil Aman Ali Khan while speaking about the objectives of holding the Annual 2020 Ladakh Winter Sports Carnival and Ice Hockey Skating Championship said the event has been organized with the twin objective of development of Ice Hockey as well as Adventure Tourism in the district.
Aman also extended gratitude to the LAHDC, Kargil, District Administration Kargil, Police Department Kargil, 121 Infantry Brigade of Indian Army and Letsleh.com for their sponsorship and cooperation with regard to the planning and organizing of the event in the district.
He also said that Ice Hockey teams from Japan would be invited to the district next year at Kargil to compete with the local teams and requested the higher authorities for restoration of Ice Hockey rinks at Pargive, Khangral, Bodkharboo, Wakha, and others villages which had suffered damages during floods in the year 2010.
