JAMMU, Sept 20: ACB-XI Jammu lifts Friendship Cup T20 Cricket tournament title by defeating Media Cricket Club in a very closely contested match by 4 runs, here today.
ACB XI captain Davinder Singh won the toss and elected to bat first under lights, but his decision backfired immediately as Media Cricket Club bowlers made an early inroad taking two wickets in first two overs.
Media Cricket Club bowlers bowled with nagging line and length and ACB XI were five down for 32 runs in 6 overs. But a magnificent batting display by Zahoor along with Sorav playing aggressive game scored 151 runs in stipulated 20 overs by losing 9 wickets. Zahoor scored 63 runs and Sourav scored 22. From bowlding side, Vivek Suri, Ashish and Shubham shared two wickets each, while Rahul Khatri and Raghav took 1 wicket apiece.
In reply, Media Cricket Club openers started on a steady note but Vishal departed early at his individual score of 10 runs. But Amit Kumar and Raghav laid a solid foundation for the run chase and both of them shared a vital partnership of 77 runs in 55 balls before Raghav was out for well made 45 runs in 34 balls. At one time it seemed that MCC would lift the trophy as they required 32 runs in 24 balls but Tahir of ACB XI had other plans as he clean bowled Amit and Pawan in a single over.
A late flamboyance by Gurdeep couldn’t tilt the game in favour of MCC and ACB XI Jammu won by a thin margin of 4 runs. Amit scored 44 runs and Gurdeep made 22 runs.
Zahoor of ACB XI was declared as man of the match, whereas Raghav was declared player of the tournament.
Divisional Commissioner, Romesh Kumar was chief guest and Nuzhat Gul Secretary J&K Sports Council was guest of honour at the finals who interacted with players of both teams. The chief guest appreciated the efforts of Media Cricket Club Jammu in organizing this kind of tournament and hoped that such tournaments will be organized under the ‘My Youth My Pride’ campaign to motivate youth to engage in sports activities.
