KATRA, June 14: Wrestler Abdul Gani of Mallerkotla in Punjab clinched the 5th Annual Udhampur Kawa Kesari Dangal title, outplaying Wrestler Benia of J&K Police in the bout for first Mali that lasted for 16 minutes at Government High School Kawa near Air Force Area, here today. Dangal was organized by Kawa Dangal Committee in collaboration with J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association.
Winner of the main bout, Gani was awarded handsome cash prize of Rs 18,000 by president J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association Shiv Kumar Sharma who was accompanied by Sarpanch Durga Dass Padha, president of Kawa Dangal Committee.
Runners-up wrestler Benia received a cash prize of Rs 17,000.
In all, 39 bouts were played in this one-day long dangal. The second main bout was played between Amit of Chandigarh and Rehmat Ali of Mallerkotla which ended in a draw. Rs 9,000 was jointly given as cash prize to both the wrestlers. Third bout also ended in a draw that was played between Sagar of Delhi and Sandeep of Delhi that lasted for 20 minutes and Rs 9,000 was jointly given as cash prize to both the wrestlers. 4th bout was won by Rakesh of Delhi who defeated Sukha of Rajasthan. Rs 5,000 was awarded to winner Rakesh, while runner-up Sukha got Rs 3,000. 5th bout was won by Navdeep of Rohtak who defeated Sahil of Mallerkotla.
