Excelsior Correspondent KATRA, Mar 13: Encouraged by the over-whelming response of the people in its war against menace of drugs, the Team Jammu today organized third successive anti-drug rally to educate the younger generation against this menace which has been slowly gripping youth of Jammu region. Braving heavy rains, hundreds of youth from Katra as well as adjoining Panchayats of Reasi district came out on road with tri-colour in their hands and raising slogans against drug mafia. The rally, which was flagged off by Head Priest of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine, Pujaari Ameer Chand, started from New Bus Stand, Katra and passing through new and old bazaars of Katra and culminated at new Fountain Chowk, Main Bus Stand of the holy town. Number of prominent citizens were also present during the flag off ceremony. The impressive rally even made hundreds of pilgrims to raise slogans against Drug Mafia. The women pilgrims even showered flower petals on the bikers. Team Jammu-an organization of young professionals, social activists, sports persons, doctors, journalists, educationists, educated un-employed youths and intellectuals, has taken the initiative to get the Jammu rid of this menace. Earlier, two similar rallies were organized by Team Jammu-one at Jammu and second at Rajouri in this regard. Addressing the rally, Zorawar Singh Jamwal, chairman of the Team Jammu, asserted that they would take their war to the logical conclusion with the support of the people. “The way people, especially the youth, are coming forward in our campaign has encouraged us”, he said and reiterated commitment of the Team Jammu to liberate youth of Jammu region from the yoke of drugs. “It is small initiative from our side which has received over-whelming and unprecedented response from Jammuites as people cutting across party ideology, caste, creed, colour and religion came forward to render their support to make Jammu free from drugs”, he said and added that in the days to come, Team Jammu will organize similar rallies in other parts of Jammu region. “It is a beginning of our campaign against drug abuse in Jammu. Our priority is to involve as many as youth in the on-going campaign to give a message to the society that youth of Jammu are ready to shoulder the responsibility of make this city free from drug abuse”, said Jamwal. Exhorting the youth to single out those who are responsible for spreading this menace in Jammu region, Jamwal maintained that it was high-time to expose those who, for some petty financial benefits, are playing with the lives of the younger generation.
