JAMMU, Jan 14: Bhartiya Lok Sangeet Kala Sansthan (BLSKS) celebrated Lohri with the inmates of Jammu Red Cross Society (JRC) Home for handicapped, Udheywala.
The function was inaugurated by Kavinder Gupta, BJP MLA along with Choudhary Zulfikar, MLA, Bali Bhagat, MLA and Sham Lal Sharma, former Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sat Paul, MLA, VK Magotra, former Regional Director, Directorate of Field Publicity and ML Dogra, former Regional Director, Song and Drama Division, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India.
While speaking, Kavinder Gupta, Chowdhary Zulfikar and Sham Lal assured the executive body of JRC Home for their full support and help from their development fund.
Over 60 inmates including 20 deaf and dumb presented scintillating cultural performance. The artists of BLSKS also staged theme based colorful cultural programme focusing the attention of the audience on the importance of the celebration of the day.
The artists of BLSKS who presented the traditional folk items with specially prepared items were Usha Handoo, KK Joshi, Hem Raj, Rajni Gupta, Neelam Gandotra, Gauri Lal, Shiv Kumar, Raju Bajgal, Vijay Kumar, Bodh Raj and Pummy.
President, JRC Home, PC Kapoor, unveiled the various projects undertaken for the overall development of inmates.
ML Dogra, Chairman, BLSKS and VK Magotra, Managing Director, BLSKS highlighted the importance of the Lohri festival.
The celebration culminated with lighting of bonfire, singing and dancing on the tunes of folk songs.
The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Joginder Chhatarpal, Secretary of the home and KK Joshi, Vice Chairman, BLSKS.
